Computer doesnt work anymore...
Wednesday i came home from work and as usual Hilde did some cleaning in the house, this time she did some vacuuming and she thought it was a good idea to do the inside of the computer too...
Good idea cuz it was a big mess in there, bad idea cuz she hit something and now the computer doesnt work anymore.... :S
First we thought it was just a loose cable, but me and my brother tried everything but the computer won't work again... When we turn it on it only works for 10/15 seconds and then it close down automaticly without anything of information on the screen.
We think the motherboard or the graphic card is maybe broken. The powersuply works well...
The area in the left corner below, the gold part with Gigabyte on it becomes very hot when computer is on and its also warm when the computer is off for a while...

i got gigabyte too here at work! better way is compressed air but not not high pressure!
I lol'ed at the thought of Hilde cleaning. Gigabyte is the best. That 'gold' part there is your northbridge and yes it is suppose to get hot. There are special types of vacuums designed for Electrical stuff. These do not generate static which destroy your electrical components. RAM is the most susceptible to failure with static electricity. Try reseating or test with another PC. Check to see if the 'gold' heatsink is still attached properly, or look for any broken capacitors. Check the CPU and CPU fan as well.
LOL
I retired my 5 year old gigabyte board recently
Seems it sagged under the video card agp8x it probably had logged in a good 6000+hrs in main.
Anyways how about the possibility of the vacuum removing any jumpers?
Can't focus yet this morning to see if there are any pins in picture?
Does the vacuum have a plastic or metal nozzle?
Did the video card have any jumpers?
Generally I lug the box to the garage and blast it out with my air compressor, the dust blasts out into the driveway in a huge cloud :stoned:
Now & then if I get over-zealous I kill a cooling fan by knocking a blade off..

Hug Hilde too from me.. cya O.
