Ill try to explain 'ping' in easy language, cuz i dont know the exact technical stuff xD
Imagine the cables between your computer and the server, 'the internet', are a highway and all the files you are sending are cars driving this big huge highway. Most cars will arrive safely at their destination, some cars will get stuck in traffic and even a few will crash. When cars have to drive further the chance something happens is bigger so there will be more cars get delayed or get broken. Evary car that get broken or when its not in time will be useless and will increase your ping (a frap that is too old doesnt help you any further when shooting somebody his ass). When all cars get on time your ping is 0.
So when you look at my stats you see my downloadspeed is lower, but my ping is also lower so...? My cars are slow but don't have to drive as far as yours so the will arrive on time mostly!
Or even shorter explained: Ping is the loss of files between your computer and a server.
